Arthroscopic therapy
Arthroscopic joint operations - painless with the smallest incisions

One of the surgical focuses at the Swabian Joint Centre (SGZ) is arthroscopic treatment of injuries and diseases of the joints.

What does "arthroscopic" mean to you as a patient of the SGZ?

Arthroscopic or arthroscopy (joint endoscopy) means that your surgeon at the SGZ can look into the joint, e.g. shoulder joint, through a small minimally invasive incision (approx. 5 mm) using a kind of video camera (optics). Because the incision is small and can hardly be seen after the scar has healed, we also speak of keyhole technique.
The advantage of arthroscopy is that your experienced arthroscopic joint surgeon at the SGZ can examine all areas of the joint under direct vision with the aid of the optics on a monitor. This enables your joint specialist to examine various structures of the joint such as cartilage, tendons, muscles and ligaments and thus to find the cause of your pain clearly and unambiguously.

What is the advantage of arthroscopy?

The great advantage of arthroscopy is that both diagnosis and therapy can be performed in one operation. Due to the small incisions of the arthroscopy, you have less pain after the operation, rehabilitation is shorter and you can use your joint again more quickly in everyday life.
